Stiff-upper lip? Nahhhh!
Having not expected too much from this 2-episode NuTech release,
it's with fair surprise that Vicious turned out to be rather
good.
The story revolves around the affairs of a rather dysfunctional
upper-class family in what seems to be a rural European setting
(possibly England). Despite the short running time, Vicious spins
a fairy interesting yarn of murder n' lust (don't you just love
those two?). It's somewhat predictable given the small cast of
characters though has its surprises and disturbing moments. Angela
is a strange young girl who harbors a hatred for her father, who
has some sort of nobility status and is being a little unfriendly
(or maybe too friendly) to the female maid Bridget. Throw in a
young, dashing butler, John, and...well, you get the idea.
One objectionable point is that Angela appears underage (damn,
those small breasts are a dead giveaway...) but thankfully she
only indulges in fully consensual encounters.
Vicious is nicely animated, though the cost-cutting flashbacks
become annoying after you see them for the 50th time. I mean,
the show is 55 minutes long in total; we don't NEED to be constantly
reminded of things! H-scenes are very explicit and well done,
if not very varied. Uh, not that that's a problem...The dub is
the usual uninspiring mediocrity, despite (or because of?) those
big name female porn stars that ruin, sorry, grace the front covers.
The subtitles are fine though and the video quality of the DVD
is fair.
Definitely worth a look provided you're not too offended by Angela's
characterization.
